Udanti Sanctuary:

The Udanti Sanctuary which is situated 175kms south of Raipur was established in the year 1984, after the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 was passed. The sanctuary is a major tourist attraction of Raipur in Chhattisgarh. The total area covered by the wildlife sanctuary is about 232 sq. km. The name Udanti has been derived from the river Udanti that flows from the West to East thus dissecting this region into North and South. The topography of the region is mainly hilly and some parts are plain land. The Udanti Wildlife Sanctuary is also best known for its efforts to preserve the endangered species of wild buffalo.Those want to give a short tour to theUdanti Wildlife Sanctuary, for you will be guaranteed to catch glimpses of amazing wide variety of animals and birds.

Flora and Fauna - Udanti Wildlife Sanctuary

The flora in Udanti Wildlife Sanctuary mainly comprises of the Tropical Dry Peninsular Sal forests and Southern Tropical Dry Deciduous Mixed Forests. Among other major flora in the sanctuary are of Teak, Sal, Bamboo, Semal, Mahul, Mahua, Tendu, Harra and Ber. And the fauna mainly comprised of Wild Buffalos, Tigers, Panthers, Chital, Chinkara, Black Buck, Sambar, Nilgai,and Four-horned Antelopes, Jungle cat, Barking Deer, Gaur, Wild dog, Porcupine, Sloth bear, Monkey, Jackals, Bison, Striped Hyena, Fox, Cobras, Pythons and many more. The sanctuary also has a huge collection of birds with prominent being the Bulbul, Parrots, Peafowl, Racket-tailed Drongos, Heron, Egrets, and Magpie robin, lesser whistling Teal, Pintail, Rollers and Herons to name few. How to Reach

The Sanctuary is situated at a distance of 160 km from the state capital Raipur.The nearest airport is at Raipur. Rajim (115 Kms) is the nearest railhead as well the nearest bus stand from the Udanti Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is thus easily approachable through the Raipur-Rajim-Gariaband-Mainpur-Deobhog PWD route.
