A travel guide to Narkanda

About 64 km north east of Chail is Narkanda. The town is situated in Shimla District, on NH22. The altitude is 2708 meters. It’s a three hours journey from Shimla. One needs to go through long winding roads to reach here. HPTDC Package tours are available during the holiday season.

Narkananda-himachal pradesh Hatupeak, situated at a height of 3300 meters, is a major attraction of Narkanda. The distant mountains shine in silver, almost magical during sunsets. Nature glows in green. Oak, cedar, walnut and pine play host to millions of chirping birds during the day. The eye-catching Shatadru flows beneath to add to the ambience. Hatupeak is a mighty option for trekkers too. Sunrises from the peak are also special. Ski games are organized every year in winter, in Narkanda.

Private hotels, resorts and PWD rest houses are availed for lodging. Enthusiasts can trek to Baggi, about 18km east, at a height of 2648 meters. Khadrawala is 11km north east (2987m).

Rohru is 36km from khadrala. HPTDC hotels are available here. Trout farming is done in Chirgaon(13km). Devi Durga Temple is at 1meter height in Haktoti. A little ahead, the Himachal Pradesh border reaches UP and Haryana.
