Jharkhand: Hazaribag

 

Hazaribag, a place of thousand gardens, located on the Chota Nagpur plateau, is a district in Jharkhand state. The city, situated at a distance of 333 km from Kolkata, bounded by grey hills, looks like a beautiful picture on the canvas. The health resort, located at a height of 615 meters, attracts loads of visitors for its scenic beauty.


Isko is the newly added tourist destination in Hazaribag due to the astonishing pictorial depiction on its cave walls. Avail a bus or hire a car to visit nearby Tilaiya (53 km) and Konar (51 km) dams.


Kanari pahar or observatory hills, about 5 km from the city, offers you a mind blowing and howling vista of the sunrise and sunset. Visitors have to cross as many as 500 stairways to reach there at the top of Kanari pahar.


If you want to spend some time in the beautiful surroundings then stay at the forest bungalow of Hazaribhag. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the natural environs while going to the observatory tower of Kanari pahar. Amble down to the Lake of hazaribag to enjoy the splendor and grandness of the delightful cosmos. Refresh yourself by riding on a boat. The Swarna Jayanty Park is another interesting place, situated at the opposite side of the Lake.


The national park of Hazaribag has an imperative attractiveness. The main entrance of the national park is positioned on NH-33, about 17 km away from Hazaribag. But the tract hidden by the dark forests is not very safe and secured if you decide to walk down to the forest bungalow, located at a distance of 14 km from the main entrance. It is prudent and wise to hire a car. This is the paramount and chief allurement of Hazaribag. A meadow spreading over a rambling terrain of 183.89 square km, at a height of 1800 feet, was built by the king of Ramgarh in 1954. The best time to visit this beautiful place is during October-April.


Forest authority and Ranchi tourist authority arrange package tour to the national park. The national forest has 10 watch towers to see the wild animals of the park. Carrying any kind of weapon inside the national park is a punishable offence.


The flowery spring offers a soothing environment in the middle of the riveting greeneries. Different species of deer, 400 types of Sambar, bears, Bison, Panthers and wild pigs are the natural denizens of the rich national woodlands of Shal, Simul, and many more tall trees. The jungle safari shows you these natural inhabitants. If you are lucky enough then you can also get to see tigers and leopards.


To witness the scientific ventures of the ancient communities, visit Barkaagaon village in the shades of the dark forests, about 22 km from the city. The splendid vistas of the sunrise during 21st March to 23rd September, between the two “V” shaped Megalith stones, installed in the contemporary edges of Harappa and Mahenjo daro, in a straight line are out of the world. During the rest of the year, it is not possible to watch the sunrise in a straight line. The new watch tower, built by the Jharkhand travel authority, offers a pleasing and panoramic view of the forest.


How to reach: A number of trains are running from Kolkata to Hazaribag road station. Dun express, Kalka mail, Mumbai mail, and Jammu Tawai express are few names of the trains.
