Jharkhand: Topchanchi

 

Topchanchi, about 303 km from Kolkata, the artificial Lake, is nestled in a circular lash forests. The two km long lake was built to supply water to Jharia in 1915. Watching the blue water of the lake sitting on the banks in the beautiful and serene environment is a beguiling experience.

The sunrise on the valley looks really stunning and beautiful. Fragrance of Palash and Mahua will free you from all your worries. Even though the opulence of the place is not that prominent anymore but still it is a special destination for nature lovers. Bird lovers can take pleasure in watching plenty of known and unknown birds.

The wildlife sanctuary is there around the lake. Leopards and jungle cats are the natural inhabitants of the sanctuary. They come down all the way to the lake to drink water. The best time to visit are the months of October through June.

There is a commemorative of Netaji in Topchanchi market. The name of the station road has also been changed to Netaji Subhas road.

Gomo station is the nearest railway station of Topchanchi Lake, located at a distance of 6 km from Topchanchi.

How to reach: A lot of trains are going to Dhanbad from Kolkata. You have to change and take a local train from Dhanbad to Gomo. Buses are also going to Topchenchi Lake from different parts of Jharkhand and Bihar.
