Maharashtra: Shirdi Sain - A Travel Guide

 

Shirdi has become a sought after tourists’ destination recently. On the southern banks of the Godavari River, the small village, Shirdi, is located in the Ahmednagar district. Village dwellers believe that Guru Dattatreya achieved his divinity here. Shirdi houses a Sain Baba club. The main office of the club is located in Shirdi as well. The workshops, organized in the Sain Baba club and Sain Baba are now immensely popular all over India.


Get down from bus and proceed towards the Reception Center of the club, located at the opposite side of the bus stand. You can keep your belongings safely in the Cloak Room of the club. The prime and most interesting spot of Shirdi, the shrine, is not very far away from the bus stand. The 6 feet tall idol of Sain Baba was built with the Italian white marbles. The day here starts with Kakad Aarti at 5:15 a.m. Sain Baba takes a holy dip in milk and rose water. The temple is kept open during 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. The walls of the huge hall of the temple portray various life stories of Sain Baba. The Diya lighted in 1836 by Sain Baba is still illuminating the room. The articles used by Sain Baba are there on display. Sain Baba had achieved divinity on 15th October, 1918.


The palanquin procession is very famous in the vicinity.


Hordes of holiday makers assemble here to celebrate a number of festivals, such as, Ram Navami, Guru Purnima and Dasara. The consecrated Khandoba Temple had been constructed on the premise where Sain Baba had appeared for the first time at an age of 20 years in 1858. Shri Gurusthan temple, Shri Dwarkamai temple, Chavadi, Lendi Baug, Maruti temple, Abdul Baba Kutir and Laxmibai Shinde’s house are the other interesting and enticing tourists’ spots of Shirdi.


How to reach: Shirdi is well connected by bus to Nasik, Manmad, Pune, Aurangabad and Mumbai. The nearest railway station of Shirdi is Manmad- Daund.
