Tamil Nadu: Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary

 

The compelling greeneries, quiet environment and fine looking sceneries are the fortes of Vedanthangal. The bird sanctuary is covering a staggering area of 30 hectors. It is a heaven for ornithologists.

The oldest bird sanctuary of India looks mesmerizing in rainy seasons.

Various indigenous and migratory birds sing in concert. If it’s green all around then the place has lot to offer to the nature lovers. Birds like Herron, ibis, pelican, Spoonbill, Stay rack, Cormorant and egret assemble in the sanctuary from relatively humid places. The best time to visit the fascinating land is during November- February. The numbers of birds increase to 50 thousands during December- January.

Witness the wonder of the animated birds. Watch the survival cycles of the birds. The wandering birds come back to their nests after a long day and search for the foods. Do not ever carry any weapon inside the sanctuary and touching the nests of the birds are strictly restricted.

Climb up to the observatory tower to watch the vistas of the adjoining area of the bird sanctuary. It is wise to carry a binocular with you. A good zoom lens for your digital camera would also be a big boon.

How to reach: Avail a train from Chennai Egmore railway station to Chingleput which is located at a distance of 56 km from Chennai. The bird sanctuary, about 20 km from Chingleput, is well connected to the old bus stand of Chingleput.

Where to stay: Vedanthagal Forest Rest House and Hotel Tamilnadu- Vedanthangal are the places where tourists can stay at. You can also stay at Chennai and cover it from there, taking a hired car very early in the morning.
