Uttarakhand: Auli and Joshimath - A Traveller's Guide
Auli and Joshimath:
Joshimath serves as the base for going to Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib, Valley of flowers and Auli. It is also one fo the four Jotir Mathas built by Shakarachariya. It is 257 kilometers from Rishikesh and 42 kilometers from Badrinath. Auli, by ropeway, is at a few minutes distance from here.
Joshimath is also the place where the Badri nath is brought down from Badri and worshiped here in the summer months. Check out the Nrisingha temple. Also check out the Jotir matha by Shakarachariya, and his statue. You can also check out the crystal shiva lingam brought from the Kailash parvat.
Auli: Asia's longest, and world's second longest ropeway will take you to Auli from Joshimath in minutes,that will take over 2.5 hours if you trek. The ropeway starts at 8 am and runs till 6.50 pm. Try to take the 8 am cars. One journey will accommodate 25 people. Intervals are 25 minutes long. You cannot carry luggage over 10 kgs.You can also go to Auli gram rest house, if you alight at tower 8, at an extra cost of Rs.200 by chair car.
The ropeway tickets are priced at Rs.500 per head return journey. Journey time is 15 minutes.
If the sky is clear, then the view from Auli is one of the best offered. Check out the attached pictures below. The Himalayas seems at a arms reach. The weather is quite cold, and frequently, the place is snow covered in the inters. There is a ski training also from January to March, which brought Auli its fame. The moonlit nights are heavenly at Auli. Clouds frequently spoil the views.
