West Bengal

 

West Bengal is a state rich in culture and bio diversity. Arguably, the Bengalis are also known to have the most of wanderlust in them, and it is not surprising to see Bengalis frequenting every possible tourist destinations of the country. It is quite densely populated, as it hosts about 900 people per square kilometer on the average. It ranks thirteenth in size but ranks fourth in population, in the country. Its capital is the city of Kolkata, one of the four metros of the country. It also used to be the capital of India while the British rule was on the country, before they decided to shift the capital to Delhi, following the unrest of the banga vanga agitation. There has been scores of freedom fighters from Bengal, including the great Subhas Chandra Bose, indicating the spirit of freedom the people have here.
 
It is a unique state to the extent that it has slices of the sea, the mountains and the forests, which no other state has. In the north, it has the beautiful hill resorts like Darjeeling, Lava, Lolegaon and Kalimpong, while in the south it has priest line beaches like Mandarmoni, Shankarpur and Digha. The Sudarbans have achieved heritage status in mangrove forests. In the north at the foothills of the Himalayas, there is Dooers, which has forests, tea estates, and a happening timber industry. Its borders are shared by Bangladesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa, Assam and Bay of Bengal. Sunder bans are among the few places that houses the endangered royal Bengal tiger.
