Bishnupur, a very small and old city near Kolkata is housing many attractions for you. It takes just 4 hours if you board from Howrah railway station. It is also recommended to visit Kamarpukur, Jairambati and Bishnupur at one go.
Bishnupur is popular to the people of West Bengal for its impressive architectural presentations which are very prominent on many temples that are there in Bishnupur and the total credit of this goes to Malla family. Starting from cultural activities to the terracotta architecture on different temples, this city offers bouquet of options to the travelers. Depictions of social lives along with daily lives on the pillars of temples are something which definitely eye catching. Many barrages were made to solve the problems of water in the city at the time of Malla still carrying the memories of Malla kingdom. Singing gharana of Bishnupur is still very much acceptable and practiced today.

Many palaces of Malla kingdom had been destroyed with time but more than 30 of them are still standing tall and representing the rich architectural background of Malla kingdom. Dalmadal, the 3.8 meters long war shooter still has a strong appeal to the tourists of Bishnupur. Besides Dalmadal the Chinnamosta temple is very renowned to the people of Bishnupur.
If you want to experience more of Malla architecture then Sarbamangala temple, Kalachand temple, Radhamadhab temple, Shyamrai temple, Jora bangla temple, Keshtaroy temple, Mahaprabu temple, Sri mandir of Devi Durga, Radhalal Jeu temple and two storied Bhog temple are few names to note.
The living palace of Malla family, the palace made of laterite stones is almost destroyed now but if you are still interested to see more terracotta architecture then square structured Sri mandir of Madanmohan can fulfill your thirst. Rashmanch, a 35 feet tall stage gives you an opportunity to taste the architecture of Mishar. If you book a rickshaw which takes 60-70 rupees for a ride of 3 hours you can visit most of the places of interests in Bishnupur.

Now a day’s package tours are also organized by Hoteliers association at the time of Bishnupur fair in the month of December. Different books of Malla era, coins, and designed stones are on display in this museum.
If you want to take something from Bishnupur to remember the trip for ever you can buy different kind of saris like baluchari, swarnachari, mallabhum silk from some renowned shops of Bishnupur.
Contemplate to go to some of the near by places like Mukutmanipur, Asna forest which is 15 km away and Sonamukhi forest, a very rich forest which is 30 km away from Bishnupur. You will not regret.
