West Bengal - Kalyani

Kalyani, a city planned by Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, is 48 kms away from Kolkata. It is easy to visit Kalyani and be back on the same day to Kolkata. It takes 1:30 hrs by train from Sealdah railway station, and there are trains round the day. Kalyani University, Bidhan Chandra institute, central park and different picnic gardens are the places of interests.

You can also hire a car to and fro to Kalyani from Kolkata, and is definately a more convinient way to visit.
The whole town of Kalyani is very green, and the planned town and its beauty is sure to hit you. Mostly unpolluted, it makes a very good place for picnics and outings.

Ghoshpara, Kalyani is famous for its kirtans or prayers of Kartabhaja community, and Himsagar is famous for taking a holy bath. Enthusiastic people can also get down at Naihati on the way to Kalyani to see the abode of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.
