Kamarpukur is 104 km away from Kolkata. The preffered mode of communication is by bus or by car. Kamarpukur is a destination especially for the people with a religious bent of mind who would like to spend a whole day in a calm and quiet.
Kamarpukur is very popular in west Bengal as this is the birth place of Sri Ramkrishna Paramhansa. The Anupam temple planned by Mr. Nandalal Basu, residence of Sri Ramkrishna Dev, Raghubir temple, are some of the notable places of Kamarpukur. It is said that the mango tree which is there near by is planted by Ramkrishna Dev himself. You can offer your prayers in Ramkrishna Math which is open from 6:30 to 11 and 15:30 to 20:30 in winter and 6:00 to 11:00 and 16:00 to 21:00 in summer. The poojas in Ramkrishna Math is a great experience for the followers. Jyogi Shiv Mandir, Haldar pukur, residence of Laha babu and his library, Gopeshwar Shiv mandir, residence of kamarrani, residence of Sita Nath Payne, residence of chinu sakhari and Gadadhar Chidren garden are very prominent and important places of Kamarpukur. They are generally visited on foot, and takes about 1 hour max to complete.
If you plan to stay there you can ask for permission from president maharaj to stay in Ramkrishna Math where good facilities of fooding and lodging are available. Otherwise you can opt for privately owned lodges which give you rooms in reasonable rates. Delicacies like Sada Bonde, Jilipy should be tasted here to tingle the sweet taste buds.
If you plan to stay back there for another day you can go to some places near by. The mukundapur Shiva temple, a 2 km away destination from Kamarpukur is a good place to start your tour with. If you like historical places you can go to places like Garh Mandaran and Bhitargarh at a distance of 1.5 km from Kamarpukur choti by bus. Places like Mogly fort at orisha gate, Gaji and mosque of Pir Saheb, tomb of Ismail Gaji which is famous to both hindus and muslims. Amodar river, Malini stone, Kajla dighi, peacock corner, deer park, lake, Lakshmi lake for boating, Saileshwar Shiva temple will definitely fulfill your expectations of having a complete outing. You can choose Chadur which is 4 km away from Arambag as your next destination. There is a forest bungalow at Chadur, but it’s recommended that you carry your food from Arambag.
