A place of white orchid, situated on the way to Darjeeling from Siliguri, has got its name from the Nepalese word Kharsang. Karseong is a small town covered with green carpet of tea gardens. Makai bari tea estate is one of the renowned tea estate of Karseong which illustrates the beauty of Karseong.


Karseong can take you to a quiet and placid place away from vociferous everyday life. The pleasant weather of Karseong is one of the reasons for which the tourists are engrossed to come in and enjoy. Especially, the population and numbers of tourists have increased from the time (23rd august, 1980) when Karseong was connected by toy train from Siliguri. The town still carries the memories of Sister Nibedita, Rabindra Nath Tagore, Abanindra Nath Tagore, Netaji Subhas and Atul Prasad.


Kurseong houses quite a few big and costly renowned convent schools of West Bengal. Karseong has a touch of strong modern culture in its temples, mosques and churches. Collection of flowers and orchids in the homes of local residents and tea gardens on the slopes of Karseong valley make Karseong a colorful destination. Eagle crag higher up is famous for viewing sunset on the valley, the plains of Siliguri and ever green Kanchanjangha.


Dauhil, 12 km towards north-southern side from Karseong, is another viewing spot where from you can enjoy the beautiful nature. You can also see Dauhil forest museum and adjoining forest school, amusement park and deer park on the landscape of Dauhil. Netaji Bhaban and museum, at a distance of 2 km from Hill cart road are other sought after destinations for tourists.


You can also enjoy watching the natural beauty of the nearby Lake and temple while you stay at Rohini Tourist Complex for a day or two. Cholling gumpha and the Budha idol on the way to Darjeeling from Karseong, at an altitude of 6000 feet, is a nice example of architectural excellence.


How to reach: Karseong is connected to Siliguri both by Railways and by buses. Toy trains from Siliguri are touching Karseong rail station on its way to Darjeeling. You can also hire a vehicle or take a bus from bus stand of Siliguri. Siliguri is well connected by bus from Kolkata but if you prefer to avail railway service then you need to reach NJP station, and hire a car from there or reach Siliguri and then hire a car or take a bus or a shared jeep.
